1)     Battlefield 3

Developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronics Arts, Battlefield 3 is a first person shooting video game and is the top rated shooting game of the year 2011. The game is compatible for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is a sequel to Battlefield 2. The game was released on 25th October 2011 in North America and on October 28th, 2011 in Europe. In the first week of its release, it sold almost 5 million copies.

The game features the combined arms fighting and supports single as well as multi-player mode. The game takes place in urban streets and landscape areas of Paris, New York, Oman, Tehran, Sulaymaniyah and Wake Island. Initially the game begins near the Iran-Iraq border where US forces and common people are fighting and later the game moves on to the northern Iran.

For the multi-player mode, players can take one of the four roles that are Assault, Support, Engineer and Recon. The Assault team has to take care of the rifles and heal the teammates. The Support team supplies the ammunition. The Engineer team has to take care of the vehicles and the Recon class has to spot the enemies.

According to the publisher, the game is the biggest first person shooter launch in EA history.

2)     Homefront

Developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ, Homefront is a shooting video game. In the game, players are fighting against Korean military occupation of the U.S. The players are fighting as members of resistance movement. It is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In North America it was released on 15th March 2011, in Australia on 17th March 2011, in Europe on 18th March 2011 and in Japan on 14th April 2011.

The game provides the players with a cinematic and character-driven experience. The game is based on the guerilla-style tactics. The multi-player mode is a vehicle-based combat. The players can earn points and by these points they can buy vehicles, gears and weapons. Weapons are available on a lower price while helicopters and tanks are high priced items. It can support 32 players in the multi-player mode.

The game has received mixed reviews by critics but with an excellent multi-player mode, this game is worth playing.

3)     Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix, the third game in the Deus Ex series, was released in August 2011. It is a science fiction shooting game. The game is set in the year 2027 which is 25 years before the first title of the game series. At the time, corporations have gained much more power than the government. The players in the game play as Adam Jensen who is supposed to be the security head of one of such corporations. He gets severely injured in a brutal attack. He has to undergo a surgery and as a result of that he returns to his work with advanced prostheses. Now his aim is to discover that who was responsible for that brutal attack.

The game is divided in four pillars which are Combat, Stealth, Social and Hacking. Players have an option to switch between these different modes whenever they want to. In the game Augmentations give the player some super human powers. They make the player very powerful and he can also craft his own playing methods. Enemies also react to the decisions made by the player like changing of behavior or usage of different weapons.

The game has sold out more than 2.18 million copies and is highly appraised by the critics also.

4)     Rage

Released on 4th October 2011 by id Software, rage is one of the top rated FPS video game. The game is set in a post apocalyptic world, similar to what was shown in the movie Mad Max 2. The game features the effects produced by the asteroid 99942 Apophis. The game also provides the players to drive vehicles. They can also upgrade their cars.

The game starts with the player being a survivor of the year 2029, after the destruction produced by Apophis asteroid. He wakes up inside an Ark. The game mainly features shooting and racing but the main focus is on shooting. Player can augment and upgrade his car. The game has a world of survivors and mutants, who are the main enemies of the survivors during first half of the game.

The game also supports two multi player modes. One is Road Rage that can support upto 4 players who race with each other while killing the opponents and the other is the Legend of the Wasteland.

5)     Brink

Developed by Splash Damage and released on 10th May 2011 in North America, Brink is a high rated shooting video game. It was released on 12th May 2011 in Australia, on 13th May 2011 in Europe and on 16th June 2011 in Japan. In the game two faction fight against each other which are Resistance and Security. The game is set up in a city called The Ark, which is a floating city above the flooded Earth. It can be played online and multiplayer servers support 16 players at a time. The players have a choice to play against each other or to play against artificially-intelligent bots.
